COSMIC Measurement Method V3.0: Four Documents (4)
- The Common Software Measurement International Consortium ('COSMIC') is pleased to announce that the major upgrade of the COSMIC Functional Size Measurement Method, version 3.0, is now available. The four documents are as follows, and can be downloaded from the web site:
COSMIC Method v3.0 Documentation Overview
COSMIC Method v3.0 Method Overview
COSMIC Method v3.0 Measurement Manual
COSMIC Method v3.0 Advanced & Related Topics
Function Point Counting Practices Manual - The Function Point Counting Practices Manual is the definitive description of the Function Pointing Counting Standard. Several versions of the manual are available, each describing the standard or variation (e.g., unadjusted version) at a given stage of development.
MK II Function Point Analysis Counting Practices Manual, Version 1.3.1 - This manual has been prepared by the Metrics Practices Committee of the UK Software Metrics Association (UKSMA), which is made up of experienced practitioners of the method. This version 1.3.1 is a maintenance release of Version1.3, which included several refinements and extensions to cope with new forms of software requirements, and to ensure compatibility with the draft International Standard on ‘Functional Size Measurement’.
NESMA FPA Counting Practices Manual (CPM 2.0) - The NESMA issued the first version of its manual Definitions And Counting Guidelines For The Application Of Function Point Analysis (NESMA CPM 1.0) in 1990. The manual assumed the principles of the IFPUG Counting Practices Manual, but gave more concrete guidelines, hints and examples.
Version 2.0 of the NESMA CPM was released in 1996. The new version contained even more guidelines, hints and example on complex counting issues. The manual is very popular. Every year about 1000 copies are sold.
From the international contacts which the organization maintains, it seems that the NESMA counting guidelines for applying function point analysis (FPA) are being used more and more and are becoming prominent in Europe, alongside the IFPUG guidelines. The NESMA has therefore translated this book into English. It is an exact translation of the Dutch text, using the same FPA terminology maintained by the IFPUG. It has been certified by ISO in 2003.
