Experts or personnel knowledgeable in the area of Configuration Management.
  • Babich, Wayne - Currently a Software Designer/Developer at Charles River Development; wrote a book on software configuration management in 1986.

  • Berlack, H. Ronald - H. Ronald Berlack has been principal of Configuration Management International, Amherst, N.H. The firm provides expertise in the establishment and implementation of the hardware and software configuration management process, including assessment of configuration management capabilities related to the Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model.

Berlack was manager of Configuration and Data Management at Sanders, a Lockheed Martin Company, Nashua, N.H. from 1968 to 1992. His responsibilities included the development and implementation of configuration and data management policy and procedures throughout the company.

He has been the chairperson of the Electronic Industries Association's Data and Configuration Management Committee and co-chair of the IEEE working group that published IEEE Standard 828-1990, Software Configuration Management Plans. He is a project co-editor for the International Organization for Standardization standard on software configuration management (CD 12220-2).

  • Bob Kolacki web page - Bob Kolacki works for SPAWAR, and his web page contains useful information about configuration management, especially for the DoD environment.

  • Leon, Alexis - Alexis Leon is managing director of L & L Consultancy Services, providing software development consulting in India. Mr. Leon received his B.Tech and M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering from the Government College of Engineering Trivandrum, University of Kerala, India. He is a member of the Computer Society of India, the Indian Institute of Industrial Engineering, and the National Institute of Quality and Reliability. He is the author of more than 20 books on various computer topics.

  • Lyon, David - Dave Lyon has worked in industry (General Electric, Lockheed Martin, United Technologies) for thirty nine years, primarily in the fields of Project Engineering and Configuration Management. Prior to joining General Electric and Lockheed, he was a project engineer for the United Technologies Corporation, where he was responsible for proposal development, system design, integration, test, and configuration management for several inertial guidance system engineering development and production programs, including the Lunar Lander, Mars Viking Spacecraft, and the CH53E Helicopter.

He is the author of: 'Practical CM: Best Configuration Management Practices for the 21st Century', 'Transparent CM: How to Get There' and 'Practical Project: Guidelines for Project Engineers and Program Management Personnel'.

Dave provided CM seminars and consulting services to clients throughout North America engaged in the transition from paper based CM systems to automated CM systems. He is also the "CM Answer Guy" for the PDM Information Center CM Help Desk - http://www.pdmic.com and owner and operater of Raven Publishing Company - http://www.configuration.org.

Lastly, he also serves as the project leader for the international Standard CM Certification Team, an organization whose mission is to establish a standarized CM certification process for CM practitioners worldwide.

  • Van Der Hoek, Andre - From the web site:

"André van der Hoek is a professor in the Department of Informatics of the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences and a faculty member of the Institute for Software Research, both at the University of California, Irvine. He holds a joint B.S. and M.S. degree in Business-Oriented Computer Science from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
André's research focuses on understanding and advancing the role of design, coordination, and education in software. His graduate work addressed distributed configuration management and versioned software architecture from a technical perspective, but since his arrival at UC Irvine he has been "positively corrupted" by his colleagues in the Department of Informatics to address a broader research agenda that examines his work from a multitude of different perspectives.

Education is a key interest of André. He was the principal designer of the new B.S. in Informatics at UC Irvine, and is responsible for delivering several courses in this innovative curriculum. His research bridges into the educational realm by looking for, realizing, and evaluating new approaches to teaching software engineering, particularly for those topics that traditionally are difficult to communicate."

  • Ventimiglia, Bob - Bob has more than 30 years of management, engineering, and training experience with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Serena (formerly Merant), Pretzel Logic Consulting, GE Aerospace, GE Corporate Engineering, Sanders Associates and Hamilton Standard. Bob has also taught continuing education courses for Southern Polytechnic University in Marietta, GA, and SCM Seminars for Technology Training Corporation in El Segundo, CA. Among the positions he has held are Director, SCM Evangelism, Manager, C130 Configuration and Data Management, Manager, System/Software Engineering Environment and SCM, Manager Computer Resources, Sr. Consultant and Principal Mechanical Engineer. Bob has presented enthusiastically received SCM seminars in the U.S. and Europe. Bob contributed an article on SCM Tools which was published in the Encyclopedia of Software Engineering, and contributed to the Addison Wesley book “Software Configuration Management Patterns: Effective Teamwork, Practical Integration” by Steve Berczuk and Brad Appleton. In March 2001 Computerworld honored Bob as one of its Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2001.
