Applications include tools, such as parsers, and standard languages implemented in XML.
  • About SAX - SAX is the Simple API for XML, originally a Java-only API. SAX was the first widely adopted API for XML in Java, and is a “de facto” standard. There are versions for several programming language environments other than Java also. This site has an FAQ, links to SAX2 Parsers, a Java API Quickstart and good articles on SAX in general.

  • Abstract State Machine Language (ASML) - Test generation based on total transition coverage of FSM. AsmL is an executable specification language based on the theory of Abstract State Machines. The current version, is embedded into Microsoft Word and Microsoft Visual Studio.NET. It uses XML and Word for literate specifications.

  • Ambulant Open SMIL Player - The AMBULANT Open SMIL Player is an open-source media player with support for SMIL 3.0. The current AMBULANT release provides namespace-based support for the SMIL Language, UnifiedMobile and SMIL Tiny profiles. The current release also provides full backward compatibility with SMIL 2.0.

  • CXML - Commerce eXtensible Markup Language - cXML is a streamlined protocol intended for consistent communication of business documents between procurement applications, e-commerce hubs and suppliers. The protocol does not include the full breadth of interactions some parties may wish to communicate. However, through the use of Extrinsic elements and newly-defined domains for various identifiers, it is easily expanded by such applications. This expansion is the limit of point-to-point configurations necessary for communication.

  • EBXML - Electronic Business XML - The mission of ebXML is to provide an open XML-based infrastructure enabling the global use of electronic business information in an interoperable, secure and consistent manner by all parties.

  • Geography Markup Language - The OpenGIS Geography Markup Language (GML) is an XML grammar for expressing geographical features. GML serves as a modeling language for geographic systems as well as an open interchange format for geographic transactions on the Internet.

  • kXML - kXML is a small XML pull parser, specially designed for constrained environments such as Applets, Personal Java or MIDP devices. In contrast to kXML 1, kXML 2 is based on the common XML pull API.

  • Log Markup Language - LOGML is an XML 1.0 application for describing log reports of web servers and supporting Web data mining.

  • Open Mobile Alliance - A standards body developing open standards for the mobile phone, including the XHTML Mobile Profile. The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is based on XHTML MP. WAP is the de facto worldwide standard for providing Internet communications and advanced telephony services on digital mobile phones, pagers, personal digital assistants, and other wireless terminals.

  • SAX - Simple API for XML - SAX Software and Resources from XML.com

  • SIG for XML Processing in Python - This Special Interest Group provides a forum for discussion and implementation of tools to support XML processing in Python. The XML Topic Guide, maintained by the XML SIG, contains links to documentation, source, and so on.

  • SMIL Resources - SMIL is Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language. The pagfe from XML.com offers many links to editors, appications, articles etc. on SMIL.

  • SOAP - Simple Object Access Protocol - SOAP is an XML based object protocol for the exchange of information in a decentralized, distributed environment. It consists of: an envelope that defines a framework for describing what is in a message and how to process it, a set of encoding rules for expressing instances of application-defined datatypes, and a convention for representing remote procedure calls and responses. All encoding is in XML.

  • Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) - The W3 Consortium page for SMIL.

  • UBL TC - Universal Business Language Technical Committee - The purpose of the UBL Technical Committee (TC) is to develop a standard library of XML business documents (purchase orders, invoices, etc.) by taking an already existing library of XML schemas as a starting point (Commerce One's XML Common Business Library (xCBL)) and modifying it to incorporate the best features of other existing XML business libraries. The TC will then design a mechanism for the generation of context-specific business schemas through the application of transformation rules to the common UBL source library. UBL is intended to become an international standard for electronic commerce freely available to everyone without licensing or other fees.

  • UDDI - Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration - This is the official community gathering place and information resource for the UDDI OASIS Standard, which defines a universal method for enterprises to dynamically discover and invoke Web services. The standard is advanced through an open process by the OASIS UDDI Specification Technical Committee, a group that encourages new participation from developers and users. This is a community-driven site, and the public is encouraged to contribute content.

  • VoiceXML Forum - The VoiceXML Forum is an industry organization founded by AT&T, IBM, Lucent and
Motorola, and chartered with establishing and promoting the Voice eXtensible Markup
Language (VoiceXML), a new standard essential to making Internet content and
information accessible via voice and phone.

  • WIDL: Application Integration with XML - The problem of direct access to Web data from within business applications has until recently been largely ignored. The Web Interface Definition Language (WIDL) is an application of the Extensible Markup Language (XML) which allows the resources of the World Wide Web to be described as functional interfaces that can be accessed by remote systems over standard Web protocols. WIDL provides a practical and cost-effective means for diverse systems to be rapidly integrated across corporate intranets, extranets, and the Internet.

  • XGMML - eXtensible Graph Markup and Modeling Language - XGMML (eXtensible Graph Markup and Modeling Language) is an XML application based on GML which is used for graph description. XGMML uses tags to describe nodes and edges of a graph. The purpose of XGMML is to make possible the exchange of graphs between differents authoring and browsing tools for graphs.

  • XHTML Reourses - This page presented by XML.com lists articles and links related to Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML).

  • XRML - eXtensible Rule Markup Language - Extensible Rule Markup Language (XRML) can support the automatic processing of implicit rules embedded in the hypertexts and help human browse them for their comprehension. The topology of XRML in contrast to XML and HTML is shown in Figure 1. XRML aims to convert itself to XML for browsing, and assist the generation and maintenance of consistent explicit rule structure.
