Software Reliability resources created by or of special interest to the DoD community.
National Software Quality Experiment (NSQE) - In 1992 the DOD Software Technology Strategy set the objective to reduce software problem rates by a factor of ten by the year 2000. The National Software Quality Experiment is being conducted to benchmark the state of software product quality and to measure progress towards the national objective. The centerpiece of the experiment is the Software Inspection Lab where data collection procedures, product checklists, and participant behaviors are packaged for operational project use. The uniform application of the experiment and the collection of consistent measurements are guaranteed through rigorous training of each participant. Thousands of participants from dozens of organizations are populating the experiment database with thousands of defects of all types along with pertinent information needed to pinpoint their root causes.
Participants were invited to compare their organization's software inspections results to the NSQE benchmark using a Measurement and Metrics Assessment tool based on the NSQE.
Reliability Information Analysis Center - The Reliability Information Analysis Center (RIAC), formerly known as the Reliability Analysis Center (RAC), has served as a Department of Defense (DoD) Information Analysis Center (IAC) for more than 35 years. As an IAC, the RIAC is a Center of Excellence and technical focal point for information, data, analysis, training, and technical assistance in the engineering fields of Reliability, Maintainability, Quality, Supportability, and Interoperability (RMQSI).
Software Technology for Adaptable, Reliable Systems (STARS) - The STARS program is sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
STARS is focused on accelerating a change in the way software is developed within the DoD. This change represents a shift to a product line approach/technology paradigm that is process driven, domain specific, reuse based, and technology supported.
The STARS goal is to increase software productivity, reliability, and quality by integrating support for modern software development processes and reuse concepts within software engineering environment (SEE) technology.
