Pointers to various organizations within the DoD and Comercial Software communities that determine policy and standards.
  • Defense Acquisition University (DAU) - The DAU is an organization established by Congress in 1990 to consolidate and integrate education and training for the Defense Acquisition Workforce. In addition to providing training, it maintains the Acquisition Community Connection(ACC)on line forum for Communities of Practice.

  • American National Standards Institute (ANSI) - ANSI serves as administrator and coordinator of the United States private sector voluntary standardization system. Founded in 1918 by five engineering societies and three government agencies, the Institute remains a private, nonprofit membership organization supported by a diverse constituency of private and public sector organizations.

  • Defense Standardization Program - The DSP is run by the Acquisition Practices Directorate in the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Industrial Affairs & Installations (ODUSD (IA&I)). This page describes the DSP and features information about Military Specifications and Standards reform.

  • IEEE Computer Society Standards Activities Board (SAB) - The objective of the Standards Activities Board (SAB) is "to provide an organizational framework and conducive environment within which to develop broadly accepted, sound, timely, and technically excellent standards that will advance the theory and practice of computing and information processing science and technology."

  • International Organization for Standardization - The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some 100 countries, one from each country. ISO's work results in international agreements which are published as International Standards.

  • International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - The ITU, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland is an international organization within which governments and the private sector coordinate global telecom networks and services. ITU activities include the coordination, development, regulation and standardization of telecommunications and organization of regional and world events.

  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - The National Institute of Standards and Technology was established by Congress to assist industry in the development of technology . . . needed to improve product quality, to modernize manufacturing processes, to ensure product reliability . . . and to facilititate rapid commercialization . . . of products based on new scientific discoveries.
