How can the DACS help solve your Software Engineering problems?
Answer: A DACS Technical Area Task (TAT)
The DACS provides contract support to our customers in order to assist them
in solving software engineering and software technology problems or in
developing, instituting, or communicating improved methods. This is provided through a DACS mechanism called a Technical Area Task (TAT). The performance period of a TAT may run from several weeks to several years in duration. TATs are work efforts that are analytical and technical in nature and which are separately funded by DACS customers.
The process begins when a customer contacts the DoD DACS, the
Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) or the Defense
Technical Information Center (DTIC) with a request for DACS assistance. The customer
then is referred to as a TAT sponsor.
In concert with the sponsor, and in response to a Statement of Work (SOW) from the COTR, the DACS Team develops a brief technical and cost proposal.
After the proposal has been approved by the DACS Team, it is reviewed and approved by the DACS COTR, located at the Air Force Research Laboratory/Information Directorate (AFRL/IF), and the DTIC Information
Analysis Center (IAC) Program Office at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
The approved proposal is then forwarded to the Procurement Contracting Officer at the Defense Supply Center, Columbus, Ohio, who negotiates the task and adds it to the DoD DACS contract.
The DACS is the Department of Defense (DoD) Software Information Clearinghouse.
The DoD DACS is sponsored by the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) through the Information Analysis Center (IAC) Program.
To request a Technical Area Task (TAT)/Special Study or for any Technical Inquiry use the Technical Inquiry Submission Form.
DACS Mission
Our mission is to provide support and assist in the transition and application of software technology research.
Technical Area Tasks (TAT), or Special Studies are performed and technical consultation is available for all aspects of software engineering. Past studies have focused on requirements engineering, rapid prototyping, cost estimation and modeling, Ada tools, and conference support. The DACS staff performs TATs for and provides consulting services to members of the defense community, other government activities, industry and academia for all aspects of software engineering and technology. TAT coverage includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
